How to Create an Editable Mailer using MS Outlook
I get asked this question a lot of times... I spent a couple of years in the marketing department (Real Estate) and learnt to create editable mailers out of pure necessity.
The following are the steps to create an editable mailer ( presumption being that you already have a creative). The screenshots are from MS Outlook 2007 but you could more or less use them with any version of Outlook.
Step 1
>Click on "New" to start a new message
Step 2
>Select the "Insert" Tab and click on the body of the message
Step 3
>Insert a 1x2 table
Step 4
>Select the first cell of the table by clicking on it
>Select the "Insert" Tab
>Select “Picture” then browse and insert the emailer creative.
>Make sure the width of the mailer creative does not exceed 800px.
Step 5
>Select both the cells of the table (Do not “Select All” only the cells of the table)
>Select the "Layout" Tab in the table tools.
>Select the “center center” alignment
Step 6
>While the cells of the table are selected now click on the “Cell Margins” to bring up the table Options Pop Up
>Change the “Left” and “Right” Margins both to 0
Step 7
>Now click on the bottom cell (do not select it)
>Change the “height” of the cell to the desired size using the “Cell Size” options (Only change the height)
Step 8
>Select both the cells of the table (Do not “Select All” only the cells of the table)
>Select the “Design” tab in Table tool
>Click on “Shading” in Table styles
>Select an appropriate background colour based on your creative.
Step 9
>While the cells of the table are selected now click on “Borders” and select “No Borders”
Step 10
>Select the “Message” tab
>Click on the bottom cell to enter the desired text
>Adjust the font size & style according to your requirement
Step 11 (Important)
>Select the text you have entered and change the colour of the font based on your requirement.
>Always change the colour of the font even if it is to “Black” or “Automatic” so that the colour does not change when the mail is sent out.
DONE !!
You are now ready to share the mailer with your partners who can make changes in the mailer as required and send it to their client base
